Polypropylene Sheet Protectors

I have before touch the subject of polypropylene in this blog and as it is such an important issue I have decided to bring it up again provide extra information on the terms of polypropylene.

Keepfiling.com only sell archival safe and acid free polypropylene sheet protectors and pages protectors. No PVC or vinyl sheet protectors is offered.

But what makes polypropylene so perfect for storage of papers, documents and photos ?

Polypropylene, or PP as it is becoming known, is derived from oil. Basically a waist product from production of oil and gas which has been turned into a useful commodity which today is used widely for many different products.
Polypropylene is a polymer comprised of carbon and hydrogen. It burns only at very high temperatures and ignite at about 600 degrees Celsius and turns into non-toxic water and carbon dioxide when it burn.
When heated the soften point is about 150 degrees celsius. This is high above even the hottest temperature measured in Death Valley California (hottest point in North America).
It is naturally Ph neutral (acid free) and clear. It contains a very small amount of water - less than 0.2% and does not absorb humidity from the surrounding environment. With this it don't support mildew and mould growth, don't rot or decay which makes it perfect for file management purposes.
In conclusion it can be said that the mechanical properties of polypropylene are remarkably useful for records management products of sheet protectors, file jackets, page protectors ,etc.

It should be mentioned that polypropylene can be recycled after end usage. Melted into other plastic products often products where the cleanness of the polypropylene is not as important as with plastic skids (pallets), garbage containers, etc.
